Every morning I start my day listening to “The Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. I have been doing this for the last 20 years. By the time I arrive at my office I am literally jumping out of my skin and ready to conquer the day!
The first time I heard this song was during the movie Rocky 3. It marked the pivotal turn for Rocky’s comeback. This song absolutely rocks and kicks off my motivation, despite having listened to it over 5000 times.
So how can this one song, that lasts for 4 minutes and 4 seconds, have such an impact on me each and every day??
It’s actually quite simple. Music has been scientifically proven to improve motivation, inspire powerful emotions and regulate our mood. Music triggers the brain to release the feel-good chemical, dopamine, which works to regulate human’s behaviour and injects the body with feelings of excitement, happiness, motivation and concentration.
Think about your favourite song. The impact of the lyrics and the powerful words and how that motivates you into action. At the end of the day, great music artists want to engage with their audience on that emotional level. The band Survivor did an awesome job with that one.
So, the next time you are feeling flat or are facing a daunting task, think of some music that will strategically place you back into the motivational zone and give your brain and body that ultimate boost.
